Protect Trees from Deer

Tree Damage from Deer
Deer are often very damaging to trees. Get them off of your trees. We used two methods. One is extremely effective. One is pretty effective also.  But we're going to tell you what is not effective. Deer are beautiful creatures to watch, when they are in someone else's yard.  However when they get to your yard and begin damaging your trees, they become something else entirely.  There are however ways to protect your trees from being damaged.

Why
 Deer Rub Antlers on Trees.
Living near nature
provides an incredibly rewarding experience, but even the foremost dedicated lovers of wildlife may get pretty frustrated after they discover the local deer damaged the bark of the trees in their yard. This causes unsightly damage and can permanently damage or cause young trees to die. Male deer replace their antlers annually.  The velvet looking covering on the new antlers must be rubbed away.  Small to mid-size tree trunks serve them well.   This usually occurs early in the fall   Separate from the apparent visual deterioration, deer rubbing tree bark is harmful for the tree. Peeling back just the bark can open the tree up to wreck from pests and disease, but typical deer damage doesn’t stop there. Once the rub has gotten through the cork layer, the fragile cambium is in danger. This membrane is where both xylem and phloem, the transport tissues every tree must survive, develop. If only one section of the tree’s cambium is damaged, it would survive, but deer will often rub most of the way around a tree, causing the plant to slowly starve.

Concrete Reinforcing Wire for Deer Protection

Deer can cause real damage to small fruit trees. They'll do one of two things either eat all the leaves as they come out in the spring or they use them for rubs in the fall. Either way, they can absolutely destroy a fruit tree. So in order to protect them. What I've used is concrete reinforcing wire. This is 20 feet of wire that was cut off and then joined together to make a circle around the entire plant.

That works really well. The only problem you may have is if you have high winds, this can actually blow off. And so in those cases, I use a snake such as this to help anchor it to the ground. It works well as far as keeping the deer off. Once that growth is out this far, I don't have any more problem with deer can often buy concrete reinforcing wire by the foot. You don't have to buy a complete role.

Therefore, figure out how much you need. Figure 20 foot per tree and then you can buy that by the third rent an entire road. This protection should be fine until the tree out grows. At night time it grows it. It's going to be large enough that the deer aren't going to bother the tree. For more information call us soon (402) 302-1969.

Another Deer Repellant is Soap!

Deer Repellant using Soap
Deer have a really strong sense of smell, and gardeners can use this to their advantage once they want to stay deer removed from their plants. The soap scent causes the deer to think predators are in the area and may help to keep them off your property. One common scent repellent is highly-scented, tallow-based soap. Soap works best for areas with moderate to low amounts of deer, and it's best when each bar is placed near specific plants that you just want to shield. The soap method is one in every of the quicker and more cost effective styles of control.
